Blog Stage 8

On November 30th 2018,  Luis Hurtado wrote the blog Tear That Wall Down on his blog The Temple Of Government. This blog begins with asking the reader questions on where our tax dollars are going or what should they be spent on. Based off of the first questions and the title of the blog, it is safe to assume that Hurtado is trying to persuade the reader to think of all the better things tax dollars can be spent on rather than a wall. Such as: "better funded school or even better, a safer road for us to travel on." Hurtado ends his thoughts by defining the government's duty, pulling the reader into his argument.

Trump begins to appear in Hurtados argument, making it very clear that his stance is that the U.S. should not build a wall. He uses some facts to persuade the reader such as: "Trump promised that the wall he would build on the U.S. Mexican border, would be paid by Mexico's funds." This causes the reader to follow along with the argument. But, there are a lot of opinions that bring the argument's value down such as: "did he not think of the possibility that people could buy a 20-foot latter or that they could enter through the northern boarder." There are also some little errors that pop out to the reader, making them less likely to continue reading such as not capitalizing the T in Trump, beginning a sentence with the word and, misspelling of multiple words, and not organizing his article in different paragraphs or having a smoother transition between topics.

Hurtado concludes his blog by talking about why he thinks the wall obsession is taking a huge toll on the nation. Hurtado has a great concluding couple of sentences that bring the reader back in. With facts about Syria, Hurtado concludes the blog making his opinion clear, "Tear down the wall and open our nation" leaving the reader with a clear view of the purpose for the blog.
